Overnight Parking for Motorhomes to be Trialled in Fleetwood
In a meeting on 12th July 2017 Wyre District Council agreed to commence a 12 month trial to allow motorhome overnight parking at the Central Car Park in Fleetwood, Lancashire.
It was proposed that a 12-month trial be undertaken on the Central car park, Fleetwood offering overnight parking for motorhomes. The site is well positioned for Fleetwood town centre and offers a secluded site close to the beach.
Similar to the scheme already in operation in Fylde, the proposal was for a fee of £5 per night, up to a maximum of three nights, payable by the RingGo payment scheme currently used on the Council’s Pay and Display car parks.
The council’s current Traffic Regulation Order expressly forbids overnight occupancy in any of its car parks so in order to allow changes to the use of car parks for motorhomes the Council’s Off street Parking Places and Consolidation Order 2012 will require updating. Statutory consultation and advertising will be required as part of this process including consultation with Fleetwood Town Council.
Members of Cabinet said that the possibility of providing motorhome facilities on the car park such as waste disposal, charging points and fresh water would be considered and that Lancashire County Council would be asked to consider prohibiting overnight parking on the promenade.
UPDATE: The trial commenced in October 2017.
