The layout means that 12 nearby Aires can be reviewed on each double page spread. This makes it easier to cross reference and select an Aire within an area. Closed Aires are marked with an X on the maps and are found in a list at the rear of each book. Motorway Aires are marked with a letter on the Aires map and are found in a list at the rear of each guidebook. LPG stations are also listed at the rear of each book, A sheet map is included with the pack of two books. The mapping is also printed on the inside front and back covers of both volumes. The fold out planning map has the north of France on one side and the south of France on the other, thus making route planning and French Aires selection easy. The Locator Map has colour-coded regions with the Aires in each region being numbered from 1.
The guide has a very useful introduction to the principles of the Aires network in France, including handy hints on the use of Aires, and descriptions and operation of the different types of service points to be found.
Each description of an inspected aire is accompanied by two colour photos and, as in previous editions, two sets of symbols, one indicating the service facilities available, the other indicating other features such as overnight parking, hard surface, level surface, etc. Usefully, there is a symbol to indicate if access is difficult for large (over 7.5m) motorhomes. Concise directions are given, plus a short description which usually includes information about the locality and other services nearby. Charges, opening dates, GPS co-ordinates and postcodes are also shown.
All the Aire France is without doubt the most comprehensive and up to date Aires guide for France published in any language. It continues to be a well thought out guide to the French Aires and must surely be an essential purchase for anyone heading to France with their motorhome. Even for those who mainly use campsites it would be a useful addition to the motorhome library, you never know when you might need to make an unplanned stop.
We've checked the details and descriptions of aires that we know and are pleased to report that they are pretty accurate. The publishers include Report Forms at the back of the guide for readers to send in corrections and updates.
